$46MEPF design package for a $46M Bazhenov HPHT shale appraisal project delivered on schedule, with KBR and Granherne as technical contractors.

Context

Appraisal of the Bazhenov formation, a high-pressure, high-temperature shale in Western Siberia, at a Shell JV asset. Appraisal wells needed an early production facility to handle test production while the resource was still being understood.

Role

Conceptual Design Engineer responsible for the surface facilities scope: coordination of KBR and Granherne as technical contractors and delivery of the EPF design package.

Challenge

HPHT conditions and an unconventional reservoir with limited operating history meant the facility had to be designed around uncertain fluid and flow behaviour. Two international contractors had to work to one scope and one schedule.

Action

  • Coordinated KBR and Granherne as technical contractors on the early production facility design.
  • Aligned the facility scope with the appraisal programme and the operating requirements of the asset.
  • Managed contractor interfaces, deliverables and schedule through to the final design package.

Result

EPF design package delivered on schedule for the $46M appraisal project.
